What is Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy involves exposing the body to red and near-infrared wavelengths, which penetrate the skin to stimulate and heal cellular function. These wavelengths go beyond the surface of the skin, resulting in numerous health benefits such as reducing oxidative stress and stimulating the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). NIR light penetrates into the deep tissues in the body positively impacting joints, muscles, and organs resulting in a wide-range of health benefits.
Benefits of Red Light Therapy
• Cellular healing - Heals and powers up the cell. Through a process called photo biomodulation red and near infra-red are absorbed into the tissue which stimulates the mitochondria (the cell’s battery) to produce more energy. By stimulating the production of ATP cellular performance is optimized.
• Faster healing - When cells have more energy, they heal faster. Increased cell energy = decreased healing time.
• Better skin - Improves skin health by stimulating fibroblasts that produce collagen and elastin. This reduces fine lines, wrinkles, scars and signs of aging. Red light also improves the overall skin firmness and texture of the skin.
• Increased blood circulation - Better circulation means more oxygen and nutrients are delivered to the cells. Red light helps cells get unstuck from each other. Clumped, stuck together cells is partly a result of too much EMF exposure which causes cells to lose 70-80 percent of their ability to absorb oxygen. Red light therapy separates the blood platelets and opens the cells to receive oxygen.
• Reduces inflammation - Alleviates pain and allows for faster recovery from exercise and injury. Inflammation is a root cause of disease and skin issues. Anything that helps with inflammation helps with overall health.
• Detoxes the body - Increases circulation which allows the body to get rid of waste and eliminate toxins.
• Reduces oxidative stress - Oxidative stress in everyday language is simply the aging of the cell and can be likened to the rusting of a car. Red light therapy slows down oxidative stress which slows down aging and the onset of disease.
• Enhances mood - Enhances mood, memory and cognitive function by stimulating the brain cells.
• Improves the immune system - Increases the production of white blood cells which fight off infection. The healing and charging of the cell helps fight off allergies, infections, cancer, heart disease and auto-immune diseases.
• Increases testosterone and fertility.
• Aids weight loss
More about Red light therapy and the skin….
Extensive sun exposure causes harm to the skin, whereas red light therapy LEDs do not emit radiation. Red light therapy does not have the same effect as ultraviolet light. In this respect, it is completely different from sun tanning booths, which may actually have serious health implications due to radiation exposure. Red light therapy works at the cellular level. You may feel some fast relief from pain, but in general it takes some time for the body to heal. Skin cells turn over once a month but not all at the same time. If you are using red light therapy to clear up acne, the light will immediately kill acne-causing bacteria and quickly reduce inflammation, but the body will need time to rebuild healthy skin.
Most users will see improvement in their skin within 4-8 weeks. Since red light therapy is safe for longterm use, users can continue to build on these benefits to “turn back the clock” on aging skin and to control inflammatory skin conditions.
